I know last month I said Royfuss Archives is done, but now Royfuss Archives is officially done. I needed to do a manual review of all the posts. It was a ton of work, and I ended up making a lot of changes. I created a banner for it, and I streamlined some of the navigation. I decided to treat it as a separate site, so there is a link to the main site in the navigation. However, this is my official archives, hence the name.

I ended up making a lot of formatting changes to my WordPress posts. Mostly, I added some italics for titles and other small formatting tweaks. There were a couple of broken links, so I added notes about those. As a result, my site should be in good health.
For Royfuss Archives, I decided not to do a “Greatest Hits” page. I needed to focus on formatting when I did my manual review, and so I was not really paying attention to the content. Also, the newer posts are too new for me to consider them for greatest hits status. You will just have settle for the index maps on the Ruckus and Royfuss Old sites.
Royfuss Archives gives me a security blanket. Each post has a master file, and the site is generated from Python scripts. If something were to happen to the site, I have all these master files saved offline and backed up in other locations. I can tweak the Python scripts to generate the posts in a new layout or theme. I am very happy with the results.
With Archives complete, I am in a bit of a limbo with a few other sites. I heavily modified the master files for the Ruckus and my old static posts. These two sites still live in their respective homes, but they are redundant. I could regenerate those pages with the Royfuss Archives master files, but then I just have two places for you to read the same thing. I am not sure if I will continue to maintain them with Archives being my go-to source.
My sidebar is another area I am considering changing. On mobile, the sidebar becomes the bottom of the page, so it is less relevant, but I feel it contains some important information. I could move search and categories to the navigation, and then add a link to Royfuss Archives. I’m not sure what I would do with my “Recently Played” badge.
I will save those considerations for another day. I have been doing a bunch of web design stuff, and I need a break from it. I’ll address that in another post. Enjoy reading through Royfuss Archives.
