Games of 2022

Games of 2022 - The Sexy Brutale Screenshot

Oh boy. In July, it looked like I was barely going to make my goal of 20 video games played before the end of the year. After the dust settled in 2022, I come out with 30 games. This is going to be a long post, so buckle in. Is this a “Game of the Year” post? No, but, also, yes. My “Games of” series highlights games I played throughout the year. Check out the appendix to view past years. I share a screenshot, some stats, and my thoughts about each game. This year will also include links to my … Continue reading

Wolfenstein: Youngblood Review

Wolfenstein: Youngblood shooting a hound while on fire screenshot

It has been a few years since I have played Wolfenstein: The New Order. I really liked Machine Games foray into the series. I purchased the spinoff, The Old Blood, as well as the sequel, The New Colossus, but have not played them yet. A friend and I were looking to play a game together, and I convinced him to buy Youngblood. We jumped right into the coop shooter. Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a weird game. It was co-developed by Machine Games and Arkane. The DNA of both companies blend together in the game making an odd concoction. It makes it … Continue reading

Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess Review

Deception IV - Velguirie posing while crushing an enemy under her giant heel.

How Did We Get Here? When I was a kid, I used to watch my brother play Deception III: Dark Delusion on the original PlayStation. The game scared me for some reason. Maybe it was the blood and violence, or, maybe, it was the feeling of helplessness of being armed with only traps, while being pursued by enemies with murder in their eyes. Throughout the years, I forgot about the game… or so I thought. Recently, something triggered a deeply buried memory. Maybe it was Markiplier playing a game called Dark Deception. Maybe something got triggered while looking at my … Continue reading

Where’d The Summer Go? Oh, It’s Still Here

Royfuss Games Home Page

A lot has been happening, and I have not gotten a chance to write any of it down. I have a few longer pieces of writing I need to get written, but I need to find time. At the same time, I need to do a post before August is over. So, here is a quick update on what I have been doing. I have been pouring a ton of time into redoing my video game database. It has evolved over the years, and I actually overhauled it in 2021. There were things missing, and I ended up creating a … Continue reading

A 2022 Showcase of Video Games

Ereban: Shadow Legacy promotional screenshot

It has been a while since I have talked about video game announcements. Lately, I have been tempering my expectations for unreleased video games. This year, I am a little bit feisty, and emerged from my backlog to hype myself up for upcoming games. Normally, we have an E3 and conferences around this time of year. Instead, Playstation State of Play, Summer Games Fest, Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, and various other showcases will have to do. I did not watch everything, but quite a few games sparked my interest. Before I dive into the games that caught my eye, you … Continue reading

Greetings From The Used Marketplace

My Gameboy, Gameboy Color, and Game Gear

I have a couple of more structured posts in the oven right now. I wanted to finish one and get it posted before the end of May, but that is not going to happen. Instead, this more informal post has conjured itself into existence. This is my experience with today’s used video games market. The used video game market is nuts right now. Last year, a copy of Super Mario Bros. for the original Nintendo sold for $2 million. In general, used video game prices are too high. I think there are a few reasons for it being so crazy. … Continue reading

Games of 2021

Here are 23 games for “Games of 2021.” I did not watch a lot of T.V. shows or movies; instead, I used my time on video games. The last time I played over twenty games in a year was 2018. You can check my math by reviewing my “Games of” Appendix. Not only can you check my math, but you can see what this series is all about. I am very proud of this series. Here is a quick summary. This is not a “Game of the Year” post. Instead, it is a list of games I played over the … Continue reading

My Experience with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

BotW Vista

When I got my Switch in 2019 I also got The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I am a huge Zelda fan. However, the reviews and description of some of the gameplay had me worried. I was cautiously optimistic as the game began. A voice woke me up and led me out of the cave into the landscape of Hyrule. I did not know what was going on, but I saw a man nearby. I made my way through the waypoints at the beginning of the game, and stopped playing after 45 minutes. I was not having fun. … Continue reading

Why Do I Hate Halo?

Halo: CE Opening Cutscene

Introduction I have never liked the Halo series. So, why do I have hundreds of hours into these games, and why do I feel the urge to keep playing them? I want to explore why I hate Halo beyond “I hate them, because they suck.” This would be disingenuous, and the series deserves more respect than that. My Nostalgia We have to go to the beginning. Halo: Combat Evolved launched on the original Xbox on November, 15, 2001. Nintendo would release the GameCube a few days later in North America. Sega discontinued their failed Dreamcast earlier that year, and left … Continue reading

Games of 2020

Welcome to “Games of 2020.” I did better this year. I completed eleven games! The total number of hours playing games this year surpassed several of the previous years, so I feel good about 2020. Variety was a little lacking; I am disappointed that I did not play any indie games. In the end, I had fun with each and every game. What is this? Well, every year I create a post that highlights all of the games I completed in the year. It is not a “game of the year” countdown post. The series has taken several forms throughout … Continue reading
